On the 30th of September 2011, in front of a sell-out theatre at the BFI in London, Charlie Kaufman delivered the final lecture in BAFTA’s 2011 Screenwriters’ Lecture Series. ‘What I Have to Offer’ is an excerpt from that 70 minute speech. (full speech)
I think we’ve all been here once or twice. At least this time we can smile.
Need a new tune? Run.
John Martz made me smile. Again. Monsters.
Man, you turn your back for a day and there goes Jared Chapman posting something all superfantasticky.
The best thing since listening to the universe? Listening to the Higgs boson.
Love this shot of cinematographer Raoul Coutard.
I would love to interact with you more, truly, but i’m busy being awesome. Also, I need a root beer popsicle.
Lucie & Simon | Silent World
“The silence of the world, like a quotation, is suddenly endowed with an oppressive eloquence. Small intrusions are the true sparks here, because their disconcerting presence disrupts the majestic calm of the streets and squares.”
Crow Moon
Short Film: A flock of roosting crows are threatened by the advancing shadows of dusk. With the help of the Raven Chief they take a piece of the sun to save themselves from the darkness and share the light with the night sky as stars. Beautifully hand drawn and painted onto cells, then filmed using a multi-plane and paint on glass. For anyone who appreciates creativity or myth.
Watch: African Air
Flying in a motorized paraglider over one of the most diverse continents in the world, George Steinmetz captures the stunning beauty of Africa’s landscapes and people. His pictures show not only the spectacular patterns of the land, but also the potential and hope that the continent encompasses.
Wanted to present something amusing. Since I adore cows, this editorial illustration by Stefan Berchtold seemed a good choice. Cows. We wear them, eat them, and tip them over. Poor dears even get abducted and rudely treated (nsfw), though occasionally one will manage to get even. Anyway, always nice to see a happy cow.
Love the colors and style of the Rozowy series by Alexander Jansson. A very similar style can be seen in his animated short, ‘Uno’, below. This particular image above reminds me of The Real Tuesday Weld’s music video Bringing The Body Back Home, though i’ve no idea why, but its solemn procession in turn leads me to Allen Toussaint’s extraordinary rendition of St. James Infirmary. But there, i’ve gone astray as usual. If you’d like to see more of Jansson’s fantastic work, check his portfolio, Sleeping House Studio.
